Rippling Fates
🎮 What is Rippling Fates?
Rippling Fates is a VN+ — a cinematic, full 3D visual novel built with custom systems for dynamic storytelling, emotional pacing, and high-performance mobile optimization.
Developed inside Godot using my proprietary Void Nebula+ Engine, this project is my attempt to push the visual novel genre to its limits without losing its soul.
✨ Behind the Scenes: Discovering the Title
I started with the working title Fates of Us, turning over ideas of destiny and the multiverse — countless paths, countless outcomes, all converging like ripples on water. It felt serviceable, but static.
Then the phrase struck me: Rippling Fates.
It carried motion, inevitability, and the exact philosophy I’d been building. It wasn’t just a name — it was the soul of the project, crystallized in a single moment.
“The rippling waves of fate travel through destiny, slowly but surely.”
That line surfaced right after. It felt like standing alone on a desolate beach, staring at the endless ocean. The world empty, silent, vast. Then suddenly, at the climax, emotion surged through me like waves crashing — despair transforming into overwhelming weight. That was the moment I knew: this was the title, and this was its echo.
🧠My Vision
• A Modular Anthology Platform
Rippling Fates isn’t a single story — it’s a foundation. Each arc stands on its own, yet together they form a constellation of perspectives. As you journey through different lives, you may begin to notice echoes — subtle shifts, familiar faces, and moments that feel... altered. Characters evolve. Patterns emerge. And sometimes, the past doesn’t stay where you left it.
• Emotionally Grounded Storytelling
My goal is to weave despair, gratitude, and love into every arc. Koi’s journey begins as a romantic comedy but evolves into a heavy, mature narrative where choices carry real emotional weight.
• Multi-Sensory Immersion
Beyond visuals, Rippling Fates integrates color grading, stereo expansion, haptics, and audio mastering. Every narrative beat is emphasized through layered sensory feedback — not just seen, but felt.
• Survival Through Creation
This project is my lifeline — built from scratch, debugged through countless ghost bugs, and refined into stability. I want to prove that even a solo developer can create a platform that rivals studios, given persistence and support.
• Global Reach & Sustainability
With recognition and financing, Rippling Fates can grow into a sustainable anthology series — expanding arcs, refining systems, and reaching players worldwide. My dream is to build a universe that survives beyond me, carried by its community.
✨ What Makes My VN+ Very Different from Traditional VNs
🌌 Full 3D Environment — Tons of Cameras
Unlike traditional visual novels locked into static backgrounds and pre‑rendered scenes, Rippling Fates is staged in a living 3D environment where you control how the story is seen.
🎥 Camera Systems
- First Person Camera → Step inside the character. See the world through their eyes, live their perspective.
- Orbit Camera → Rotate freely around the cast. Experience the scene from any angle, like a dynamic stage.
- Cinematic Cameras → Choose your own shot. Frame the drama as if you’re directing the film yourself.
- CinCam Auto‑Play → Or let the world move the cinematic cameras for you. Scenes choreograph themselves, flowing like film without player input.
Every scene is authored, but the lens is yours. This isn’t a slideshow of stills — it’s a choreographed world where narrative and perspective intertwine.
🔄 Comparison to Traditional VNs
- Traditional VNs → Static backgrounds, fixed sprites, limited angles.
- Modern VNs → Even with higher resolution, they remain locked to pre‑rendered scenes.
- Rippling Fates (VN+) → A full 3D stage with authored choreography, multiple camera systems, and cinematic freedom — including auto‑directed cinematic play.
đźŽCoinstance Subsystem — Choices That Ripple Beyond Control
Rippling Fates isn’t just choice‑driven — it’s choice‑reshaped. Unlike traditional visual novels where every decision maps 1:1 to a fixed outcome, the Coinstance subsystem introduces triadic, non‑deterministic choice design.
- Not always 1:1 → A choice doesn’t guarantee a single, predictable result.
- Forces and factors → Context, ripple arcs, and hidden variables influence how the world responds.
- Triadic outcomes → Success, failure, or the rare stand — where fate refuses binary resolution and hidden paths emerge.
- Walkthrough‑resistant → No guide can promise certainty. Coinstance ensures choices ripple with entropy, mystery, and authored uncertainty.
Every decision is authored, but not entirely yours. The world itself pushes back, weaving fate into your path.
🔄 Comparison to Traditional VNs
- Traditional VNs → Choices are static: pick A, get scene A. Pick B, get scene B.
- Modern VNs → Branching is deeper, but still deterministic — outcomes are locked to player input.
- Rippling Fates (VN+) → The Coinstance subsystem makes choices alive. They ripple, shift, and evolve with unseen forces, creating a narrative that feels fated yet fluid
✨ Some ripples fade, others linger. What seems resolved may stir again, echoing in places you least expect.
🎨 DyLUT Subsystem — Dynamic Look‑Up Table System
DyLUT is a real‑time cinematic grading system forged inside the Void Nebula+ Engine. It doesn’t dilute your colors — it amplifies them into meaning. Every preset is a narrative beat, turning grading into a storytelling tool.
With DyLUT, I gained the power to shift the tone of the narrative at will — flashing instantly for dramatic impact or flowing smoothly for emotional resonance. Scenes don’t just play out; they breathe, ripple, and transform as the palette itself becomes part of the ritual.
This isn’t static color correction. It’s authored emotion, a director’s hand inside the engine. DyLUT makes the world itself cinematic, ensuring that every arc carries its own visual fate.
🔄 Comparison to Traditional VNs
- Traditional VNs → Locked into static palettes. Scenes remain visually uniform, with no tonal evolution.
- Modern VNs → May add filters or pre‑rendered LUTs, but these are cosmetic overlays, disconnected from narrative flow.
- Rippling Fates (VN+) → DyLUT transforms grading into a dynamic layer of storytelling. Colors shift mid‑scene, moods evolve in real time, and the palette itself becomes part of the authored choreography.
✨ ORNATE Subsystem — The Ornamental Engine
ORNATE gives me the power to animate anything inside the Void Nebula+ Engine with motion graphics complexity reminiscent of Adobe After Effects. It’s still in its early stages, but the freedom it already provides is transformative.
Unlike its sister ChORÉ which is dedicated to smooth and tactile UI animations, ORNATE is focused on decorative motion. It lets me animate portraits, overlays, and even UIs however I want.
Where most visual novels are stuck with simple portrait slides or background swaps, ORNATE opens the door to cinematic flourishes, layered transitions, and ornamental spectacle. Menus, overlays, and narrative beats can be staged with authored motion, elevating presentation beyond function into performance.
ORNATE is not decoration — it’s motion as design, a subsystem that turns style into substance and makes VN+ feel alive in ways the old format never could.
⚙️ Subsystems (Relics)
Here are the list of other subsystems I made during these 5 months of development:
- FreyUI → Authored interface language, clarity and elegance in controls.
- AuRA → Audio Reactive Axis, expanding stereo and binding sound to emotional beats.
- TacTUS → Tactile User Sync, weaving haptics and touch into narrative sensation.
- ChORÉ → Choreograph Engine, ritualized motion for UI transitions and staging.
- HUMM → Dialogue resonance, transforming text into phasing pauses and mythic voice.
- NoRA → Nox Ripple Archives, preserving and recalling states as fate’s memory.
- AstReA → Astral Revenant Arbiter, authored camera choreography and cosmic staging.
✨ You can discover what each of them truly does inside the game.
đź’Ś Appreciation & Support
If you choose to support this project — whether through a donation or simply by playing the demo — thank you. Your time, your curiosity, and your belief in what I’m building means more than I can express.
I know not everyone can afford to give. I’m broke too — that’s the reality I’m building this game from. But if you believe in what Rippling Fates is trying to do, you can still help by sharing the game with others who might connect with it. Whether it’s a friend, a community, or someone who loves visual novels and cinematic storytelling — every share helps me reach someone who might be willing to support this journey.
This project is my lifeline. And if it resonates with you, even a little, I’m grateful you found it.
